Skin cancers, including melanomas and keratinocyte cancers, are exceedingly common in Australia. Diagnosing and treating these cancers places an increasing burden on health care services, both primary and specialist. The Australian Skin and Skin Cancer Research Centre (ASSC) is a joint initiative of The University of Queensland and the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, and aims to harness the combined strengths of these two institutions with world-leading teams of skin cancer researchers. The ASSC was proud to focus the Global Advances and Controversies in Skin Cancer 2019 conference on keratinocyte cancers (BCC, SCC and related pathologies).
We heard overviews and up-to-date findings from world renowned experts in one afternoon. We also covered key aspects of disease burden and cost, pathogenesis and progression, and current management approaches. In addition, as ever, the conference explored areas of controversy. Our line-up of engaging & influential speakers provided key clinical insights and tips on the care of patients, from prevention and treatment through to advanced disease management.
The day was also a unique opportunity to discuss controversial areas of skin cancer care with a diverse panel of experts.
We hope you will join us at GAC-SC 2021.
